The best Sterling reserve Merlots are ageworthy. The others are merely tannic. This ’05 straddles the line. It’s certainly a dry, tannicly astringent wine that shuts down the palate. But you’ll find some rich black cherry and currant flavors. Roll the dice and give it through 2010 to come around.
